I'm sure you all have fancy and fabulous costumes planned already, but this is just a quick reminder for the others who are leaving it to the last minute. Please make sure you're in costume for the Halloween party, which is only a few days away.

Also, we have just passed the 8 week mark for Christmas. If you haven't already, I'd suggest that you speak to your supervisors regarding leave over the Christmas and New Year break.

I'm sure you are all aware by now of the presence of a flu virus amongst the staff. Several of your colleagues have needed to take time off in order to recover from this illness, and as such we are quite understaffed in some areas. A few staff members have already stepped forward and offered to fill in for a few roles in which we badly needed additional help, and I’d like to thank them profusely for doing so. However as the virus continues to move through the staff we are having more and more people taking time off to recover. As such I ask for any of you able to work additional hours to offer some assistance wherever it is needed. As a team we should be able to weather this storm quite well.

Those of you who have already contracted the virus, please be mindful of your health and ensure that your body receives the rest it needs each day.

As you can see, I have returned from a short trip and I'm sure you are all so very pleased at hearing that, am I right?

Looking back through the journal entries in the past few weeks, it seems all of you need a reminder of how to properly use, and not abuse, this system. You should all have received a memo this morning stating the proper use of these work journals.

[ooc: let's pretend the memo was properly scathing and condescending, shall we?]

I feel like this year has just flown by! July 4th is fast approaching, and while some of you may have already made plans for the evening, I'd like to extend to all our wonderful staff members an invitation to the party we're putting on for the guests at Double Diamond this Sunday evening.

Drinks will be discounted, and yes your usual staff discounts can apply on top of that as well. There is however a strict dress code - you must be wearing something red, blue or white to receive any discounts for the evening.

If your shift at Double Diamond falls on the Sunday and you were hoping for the night off, rest assured that we have organised extra staff for the evening, so leave can be granted.

I trust everyone had a good time at the staff party? I hope it will be the first of many more to come.

Tommy
I may have forgotten to mention that my goddaughter is now working here, as a bartender in the Casino. God daughter is similar to family, right? Because I think that's why I'm a little nervous

So, 2 weeks have already passed and without too many hiccups! Everyone seems to be settling in fairly well, I'm pleased to see.

I've overheard some talk about how things seem 'boring' right now. Don't worry, your boredom will be cured shortly, and you'll be wishing you had more time to prepare for the guests' arrival.

Private
I'm loving this. I love this place, I love this job, and I love Tommy living with Tommy. It's no different to before really because we spent the night at each other's apartments almost constantly, and yet ... there's a completely different feel to it now. It just feels so right. I was so worried about taking things too fast, making this leap right after travelling to a new place together, but so far things are going so very well. In saying that it has only been a week, so I'll just have to wait and see.

As for the job, some of the staff members seem very ... colourful. It will be interesting to see how they handle the influx of guests due in a week. The big opening. It's going to be a headache, I'm sure. As for the Admin staff ... I don't know what to make of them all just yet. There are certainly some interesting characters there.

Jan 31: Locked to Self

Locked to Self

This is an interesting concept. A kind of blog to help monitor and exchange details for work purposes? No doubt it gets abused like buggery to no end. I will have a coronary on the first day, if that's the case. But I can just see it now - young waitresses complaining that the humidity is ruining their hairstyles, males commenting on the pleasures of working in a bikini-clad environment.
If that's the way of things, I hope no-one expects me to divulge the minute details of my day. Can you imagine it?

7am: Rise for breakfast and early morning jog
8am: Shower and ready for start of working day
830am: Forget which direction the main building is and create excuse of needing to test an employee's ability to acurately advise visitors of grounds and hotel ammenities
9am: Arrive and advise new Boss of the obvious lack of directional skills of his/her employees - suggest Team Building seminar
915am: Have already impressed said Boss and thoroughly enjoy arranging my new office

I'll have to take advatage of the Spa. And full access to all the bars? Brilliant. Although a little crass; if I were staying at a hotel, I wouldn't exactly want to be sharing a beer with the janitor.

Thank God Annie is here. If she hasn't gone insane after working here a year, I'm sure I can manage.
